Off to the north side of the Island we went, aiming for Cavendish Beach and its bright red cliffs. Most of PEI wears that rusty-red shoreline like a signature, and it’s no surprise the classic tourist souvenir is a T‑shirt dyed with the island’s famous red dirt.

We chose the 7 km Homestead Loop, a gorgeous walk along a well‑marked, graveled path that winds through woods, skirts field edges, and traces quiet lagoons. The sheer number of trees and wildflowers was incredible. As a bonus, two bald eagles were circling over one of the fields, giving us a perfect bit of wildlife theatre.

Our second stop was Thunder Cove Beach. Totally unexpected — the place was packed even though it was late in the day when we rolled in. Stunning stretch of sand, but I can only imagine the parking chaos earlier in the afternoon.
