The trailer actually has a decent amount of storage, but the cupboards on either side of the bed were clearly designed by someone who travels with ball gowns. They’re deep, full‑height hanging closets with the rail mounted right at the front — which means anything you hang leaves a cavern of wasted space behind it. And honestly… who hangs clothes when camping?
It didn’t take long to realize the space would be far more useful with shelves instead of a lonely hanger bar. After far too many searches, I couldn’t find anything pre‑made that would fit without wasting just as much space as the original setup. So it was time to dust off the woodworking skills and build something custom.
With some help from my best friend Copilot, I sketched out a design for shelves that would slide into place without drilling holes or driving a single screw into the trailer walls — a requirement when everything is thin laminate and questionable engineering.
Then it was off to the basement with the table saw and chop saw. After a bit of measuring, re‑measuring, mild swearing, and the usual moment of existential fear that comes with turning on a table saw, I ended up with eight shelves that should (hopefully) fit perfectly into the trailer.
And here is the result.. Only time will tell if they hold up to the job.
