Today is Joe’s birthday—he’s 101 years old. Sorry… he feels 101 years old. Important distinction!
I did manage to surprise him with a few presents this morning, all of which had been stealthily hidden in the trailer – no small achievement!
After an early lunch, we boarded the 2:15 p.m. boat with Bruce Anchor Cruises—a 45‑minute trip that gives you a close look at a couple of historic shipwrecks before dropping you at Flowerpot Island. The waters of Georgian Bay are so beautifully clear. The wrecks were visible both over the side of the boat and through the glass‑bottom viewing floor. The whole area reminded us a bit of the Gulf Islands.

Flowerpot Island, part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park, is famous for its striking rock pillars, caves, rare plants, and historic lightstation. We spent three very enjoyable hours hiking the trails, exploring the shoreline, and admiring the lightstation—Joe doing remarkably well for such an old chap.

Back in Tobermory, we rounded out the day with fish/chicken and chips at Shipwreck Lee’s before heading back to the trailer for the night.
All in all, a pretty good day.
