So been heads down working on the route we are going to take across Canada. As much as we want this to be a “make it up as we go” type adventure the problem with that is finding campgrounds and ferries, we don’t have the luxury of time if we miss a ferry and have to wait 2 days for the next one.
So planning an booking are essential to the trip, I was going along great week1, week 2, week 3, and onto Newfoundland, campgrounds located in amazing places and a list of dates when the booking system opened for the grounds. all was going well until I tried to find a ferry off newfoundland! Nothing was available to book on the 29th July, the day we wanted. No problem i thought lets look at the next couple of sailings. no they were booked, so I looked at all July and August and there was not one booking available…
Ok so Newfoundland has two main ports that connect to Nova Scotia, we will just have to go from the other.. No the same issue not a single booking available July/August!!
This is crazy, Ok so they don’t allow you to reserve 100% of the spaces on the ferry so its possible you could turn up and get a drive on place but as the ferry we were looking at only went every two days if you can’t get on a ferry then its a long wait.
So back to planning with the “maybe we just can’t do Newfoundland on this trip” but that then leads to if we can’t do Newfoundland then the trans-Labrador is not going to work either. So now planning a route that is going to miss out Newfoundland and Labrador completely 😒
Here for interest is what we had planned so far…
