Joe fancied a lie‑in this morning, but my back had other ideas. So I got dressed, creaked my way upright, and headed out for a walk around the campground to get everything moving. The air was calm and cool—a blissful change from the recent “toaster-like” temperatures.
What I didn’t factor in was the heaviness of the morning dew. I naively wandered across the soccer fields, only to discover that the grass was basically holding a small lake. I emerged with thoroughly soaked feet and the distinct feeling that the dew had won this round.

After packing up we drove to Olympia Village Campground near Hamilton, Ontario. The journey was straightforward—good roads, light traffic—and we opted for a toll route. Time will tell what that costs, as they simply scan your license plate and send the bill later. Probably worth it for the ease of the smooth, uncongested ride around the Greater Toronto Area.
Partway through the drive my phone chimed with a storm warning, and the sky quickly darkened. Most of the way the rain was steady but manageable, until the final 25 minutes when it became so intense we had to pull off the highway and wait it out. The thunder continued to rumble much of the afternoon, in a low-grade complaining kind of a way.
The campground itself is clean and fairly unremarkable, aside from one notable issue: the water isn’t currently drinkable. That prompted a quick trip into Hamilton for bottled water, where we also stumbled upon an excellent health‑food store stocked with all sorts of dairy‑free goodies—which made me a happy camper!
Olympia Village seems to have a friendly group of permanent residents who are definitely “characters”, are quick to give opinions and strike up a conversation. The owner was chatty and helpful too. We’re staying here again tomorrow night, using it as our staging base for a visit to Niagara Falls.
