Being very organized (or so we thought), we had prepped the first three days of meals for lunch and supper. The only problem? We made it about twenty minutes down the road before realizing half of it was still sitting in the fridge at home. So we pulled a quick re‑route, added a solid hour to an already late departure, and finally got back on track for the five‑hour drive ahead. Nothing says “adventure” like starting behind schedule.

Once we were properly underway, things smoothed out. We cruised down dead‑straight prairie roads for hours without seeing another vehicle — the kind of stretch where you start wondering if you missed a memo about an evacuation.

We rolled into Vermilion around 6 p.m., and by 7 p.m. had the bikes unloaded and were off exploring the sleepy little town. It’s a lovely northern Alberta spot with a massive, wide main street and shops like The Men’s Den****, plus more pizza places than you’d think a small town could reasonably support. It has that perfect mix of quiet charm and “we’ve got everything you need if you look hard enough.”
